چکیده

The publish/subscribe paradigm is a common concept for delivering events from information producers to consumers in a decoupled manner. Some approaches allow the transportation of events even to mobile subscribers in a dynamic network infrastructure. Additionally, durable subscriptions are guaranteed exactly-once message delivery, despite periods of disconnection from the system. However, in some application areas, like in the safety-critical telematics, durable delivery of events is not sufficient enough. Short network connectivity time and small bandwidth limit the number and size of events to be transmitted hence relevant information needed for safetycritical decision making may not be timely delivered. In this paper we propose the integration of publish/ subscribe systems and Aspect-oriented Space Containers (ASC) distributed via Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) in the network. The approach allows storage, manipulation, pre-processing, and prioritization of messages sent to mobile peers during bursts of connectivity. The benefits of the proposed approach are a) less complex application logic due to the processing capabilities of Space Containers, and b) increased efficiency due to delivery of essential messages only aggregated and processed while mobile peers are not connected. We describe the architecture of the proposed approach, explain its benefits by means of an industry use case, and show preliminary evaluation results.

Integrating GIFT and AutoTutor with Sharable Knowledge Objects (SKOs)

AutoTutor and the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT) are two separate projects that have independently recognized the need for greater interoperability and modularity between intelligent tutoring systems. To this end, both projects are moving toward service-oriented delivery of tutoring. A project is currently underway to integrate AutoTutor and GIFT. This paper describes the...

I know what you mean: semantic issues in Internet-scale publish/subscribe systems

In recent years, the amount of information on the Internet has increased exponentially developing great interest in selective information dissemination systems. The publish/subscribe paradigm is particularly suited for designing systems for routing information and requests according to their content throughout wide-area network of brokers. Current publish/subscribe systems use limited syntax-ba...

Dimension Transform Based Efficient Event Filtering for Symmetric Publish/Subscribe System

There exists a class of publish/subscribe applications, such as recruitment, insurance, personal service, classified advertisement, electronic commerce, etc., where publisher needs the capability to select subscribers. Such kinds of publish/subscribe applications are called symmetric publish/subscribe system. The existing event matching algorithms designed for traditional publish/ subscribe sys...

Efficient Filtering and Routing in a Scalable XML-Based Publish-Subscribe System

This paper introduces YAK – a scalable contentbased publish-subscribe system. YAK employs XML documents and expressive XPath queries as the publication and subscription model. To achieve high scalability, it combines the advantages of content routing in existing publish-subscribe systems and the efficient query indexing technique in the context of XML filtering. The filtering and routing strate...

Subscription Tree Pruning: A Structure-Independent Routing Optimization for General-Purpose Publish/Subscribe Systems

A main challenge in distributed publish/subscribe systems is the efficient and scalable routing of incoming information (event messages). For largescale publish/subscribe services, subscription forwarding has been established as a prevalent routing scheme. It reduces the network traffic for event routing due to selectively forwarding event messages to relevant parts of the network only. To furt...
